MANA AHURIRI TRUST

Mana Ahuriri Trust

On the 23 September 2016 Mana Ahuriri Trust was established.

 

The initial Mana Ahuriri Trust Trustees were:

• Barry Wilson                       - Trustee

• Joinella Maihi-Carroll          - Trustee

• Evelyn Ratima                     - Trustee

• Ruruarau Heitia Hiha          - Trustee/Kaumatua

• Tania Huata-Kupa               - Trustee

 

The ratification of the Deed of Settlement the Post Settlement Governance Entity (PSGE) and the initial Trustees were ratified by the registered members of Mana Ahuriri Incorportated in October 2016.

 

The Deed of Settlement was signed on 2nd November 2016 between the Crown and Mana Ahuriri Trust on behalf of its beneficiaries.

 

In March 2017 elections were held for 2 new initial Trustees.

The Mana Ahuriri Trust Board Trustees were:

On 9 August 2021 elections were held for the replacement of all 9 Trustees.

Who is Mana Ahuriri Trust

Mana Ahuriri Trust is a Private trust set up to receive the proceeds of the Ahuriri Deed of Settlement from the Crown. Its members in 2015 refreshed the mandate of the nine (9) named Initial Trustees in the ratification process to receive and manage the settlement on their behalf.

Mana Ahuriri Trust is currently waiting on an introduction date for their settlement legislation Bill  into the House of Parliament. Once this process begins and settlement date reached the proceeds of the settlement will transfer to Mana Ahuriri Trust to manage. Mana Ahuriri Trust has a Trust Deed which was registered in September 2016 and within this Trust Deed members have ratified the rules under which governance will manage the settlement affairs of the organisation.

Mana Ahuriri Trust held its first Annual General Meeting on 20 December 2017 at Wharerangi Marae.

 

Purpose of the trust

The purpose for which the trust is established is to receive, manage, hold and administer the Trust's assets on behalf of and for the benefit of the present and future beneficiaries of Mana Ahuriri Trust in accordance with its Deed.

 

Beneficiary

A beneficiary is an individual registered member of Mana Ahuriri Trust who holds whakapapa to one or more of the following Hapu:

  • Ngati Hinepare
  • Ngati Mahu
  • Ngati Paarau
  • Ngati Tu
  • Ngai Te Ruruku
  • Ngai Tawhao
  • Ngati Matepu
